Project Overview
Service: Executive and team coaching
Sector: Defence
Year: 2026
Duration: Five days
The Challenge
A Defence group engaged me to coach its Executive Level leadership cohort. The program combined a facilitated group session with individual one-to-one coaching for each participant.
My Approach
I designed the group session so the cohort could define its own standard rather than have one handed to them. Through facilitated discussion, participants described in their own words what strong leadership looked like in their context.
In a later session, I mapped their own language against the formal leadership capability framework they're assessed against. Participants discovered that what they'd already described as "good" mapped directly onto the institutional standard, which did more to build buy-in than presenting the framework upfront ever would have.
Individual coaching followed the GROW model, with each leader identifying their own priority area and a specific action tied to it. Participants scored themselves privately across four dimensions at the start and end of the engagement, so the measure of change was theirs to judge, not mine or their executive's. All one-to-one coaching remained strictly confidential, consistent with ICF and IECL ethical standards, and only attendance was reported upward.
The Outcome
A leadership cohort with a shared, self-authored standard for what good leadership looks like in their context. Each leader also left with a personally owned measure of their own shift.
